“I’ve kept it on my desktop to remind me that sometimes – often, in fact – when
deeply involved in a project it’s a good thing to have piles of scrap at hand for
inspiration. Ideas emerge unexpectedly from the chaos that may have been forgotten
or overlooked in the rush to press forward.”
— Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld’s famously messy desk was a paradox of chaos and order—mountains of books,
sketches, photographs, and magazines piled in precarious towers. What seemed like clutter to
the outside eye was, in fact, a system of inspiration, where fragments constantly collided to
spark creation.
A similar alchemy can be found in Stefan Ivanov’s sculptural practice. Everyday
objects—barrels, toys, branches, extinguishers—are meticulously modeled and transformed in
his studio. Arranged in totemic structures, they blur the familiar and the artificial, the banal and
the poetic. Like Lagerfeld’s desk, Ivanov’s assemblages hide order in disorder, meaning in
fragments.
