Created specially for Fendi’s 100th anniversary, The Fun Buckle draws inspiration from
significant moments in the brand’s history. The playful colors recall 1966, when, just a year
after Karl Lagerfeld joined Fendi, the house presented a “colored fur coat – not expensive, but
original,” shocking the fashion scene. From then on, Lagerfeld transformed fur into a field of
experimentation with colors, textures, and treatments.
The shape is inspired by the buckle of the iconic Fendi Baguette bag created in 1997 by Silvia
Venturini Fendi, its form referencing French bread carried under the arm. The turning point
came in 1999, in Sex and the City, when Carrie Bradshaw famously declared during a mugging:
“It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette.” The witty line instantly positioned the Baguette as a cultural
statement and one of the first true “It bags” in fashion history.
