Yohji Yamamoto presented his first eponymous collection in Tokyo in 1977 before debuting at the Paris ready-to-wear shows in 1981. A menswear collection followed in 1984. The Yohji Yamamoto look is avant-garde and somehow removed from seasonal trends. He often employs oversized garments within his designs, with black usually the staple shade. Yohji’s understanding of fabric and how it drapes on the body give his collections a unique quality.
